Problem solved, sort of. I bought an xbox one controller as I thought that might work, it didn't. After spending several days trying to fix it (including reformatting my hard drive), I deleted a file called 'buttondatasetup.txt' within My DocumentsFifa 18, and it's now fully operable with the xbox one controller. Not sure whether it will work for other controllers, but worth a try, as long as you backup the file you can restore it there. If this doesn't work it might be worth trying an emulator such as DS4windows or inputmapper, with the file deleted, as they were both mapping as to how my xbox controller was working. Failing this, I got it operating using fifapadconfig, but i couldn't assign the right analog stick as it would always point left, meaning it was always trying to do skills, and my keeper always dived right for penalties, not ideal! Make sure if you use fifapadconfig, once you've used the programme that you copy the.txt file from FIFA 12 into your FIFA 18 file.
