Just sits there/update/use it every day (2.8.2) 5/31/2017 8:58:41 AM 5/5 By Angrysocialist Update: I use this program every day now and have most of my writing adventures on it. While I am no fan of markup and it would not bother me if Ulysses went to a traditional format, I enjoy how it is laid out and use it for most of my writing. I have several books I am working on in Ulysses and it is amazingly easy to switch back and forth between them.
I love how it works on the IMac, the MacBook, the ipad, and the iPhone, as I constantly write on all of them. I love Ulysses on the Mac and Daedalus on the iPad. They work so nicely together.
I had hoped this would be a sweet replacement for Daedalus. This hope was shot down. Ulysses on iPad does not sync with Ulysses on The Mac. Because I am rarely at home, I write more on the iPad. My Ulysses files are on Daedalus. Ulysses on iPad will not sync with this.
Until the soulmen fix this bug, I cannot use it. I paid $20.00 for a program which is useless to me.
I hope they read these critiques. I enjoy Ulysses on the Mac and use it for most of my writing. Now it just sits on the iPad. The key, or at least I think it is the one anyway, to make this work in its current state.
I experimented with a stack in Daedalus, physically picking it up and dragging it into the icloud inbox where I dropped the stack. Now, suddenly, Ulysses works like a beauty with icloud and I am back on it again. Am digging it. Scrivener who? (2.8.2) 5/26/2017 8:36:49 AM 5/5 By Deathyetforce Perfect score. Minimalist but everything you need. Intuitive and an absolute beauty.
Ulysses Mac App
It is my absolute pleasure to spend time on this app on a daily basis. Well worth the money. I have tried the most obvious competitor, scrivener and I could not understand their syncing mechanism at all. Technology should reduce stress in our lives, not add to it. These two apps are polar oposites in that regard.
This app utilizes iOS's own iCloud. Scrivener uses a third party app called Dropbox. This app reduces the need to even have to worry about pressing a 'save' button because every single character is saved automatically for you as you type or edit. Having another third party software to do what iOS could very easily do is at the very core of the word redundancy. If you are a security minded individual, it should be stressed that apple's security track record is arguably one of the company's biggest selling points and at the tip of the spear for the whole industry. This app blows the competition's bloated, unintuitive and needlessly unaesthetic mess of an app out of the water. Good software is why we buy our machines.
I can not more highly recommend this gem. Last update made the app useless on iPad 3rd generation. (2.8.2) 4/27/2017 6:26:39 PM 1/5 By PearlPolloJam After updating the app, when opening the app, the app remains stuck on the black login screen. I already deleted the app and downloaded it again, but it just seems stuck on the black initial screen.
I can't give a better rating when I can't even use the app. Apple won't even issue me a refund, because they claim the 60 day window is gone. Sure, I bought it 66 days ago, kudos Apple for your customer support efforts. Fantastic App for Focused Writing (2.8.2) 4/26/2017 10:23:46 PM 5/5 By chivsjawn I usually don't give reviews of apps, I usually don't care enough about an app to take the time, but Ulysses has been a different app for me. I've tried many different word processors, and note taking apps. I use MS Office extensively at work, and I've used Evernote, OneNote, Apple's Notes, and myriad others. Sometimes I just try notes apps just to see if they're anything special.
Handling References With Ulysses For Mac
Ulysses is the first writing app that I've tried that I really feel actually IS special. It's minimalist, get-out-of-your-way writing, which is exactly what I needed. I didn't want buckets of formatting options, and bells and whistles.
I wanted a simple way to keep track of all of my notes, stories, poems, ideas; and when I was ready to write, all of that note hierarchy stuff would get out of my way and all I would see is a blank, white screen. It's beatiful really. Too many apps are too busy, trying to be 'multitasking' apps, which is good for some tasks, but for creative writing and focusing it's not so great. Ulysses leaves all that behind and eliminates many of the distractions that would keep me from writing and allows me to just write. Keep up the good guys.
